Translated to "Memory of a dear place". The first movement 'Meditation' was going to act as the second movement to Tchaikovsky's violin concerto but it was repurposed for the Souvenir and replaced by the 'Canzonetta'. It was dedicated to the estate of Russian businesswoman Nadezhda von Meck, "Brailovo". Any of the three movements can and are often performed as individual pieces. It is noteworthy that Alexandr Glazunov had adapted it for violin accompanied by full orchestra around 1896.
