Violin Sonata in G minor 'Devil's Trill'

By Giuseppe Tartini

'Le trille du diable' is the original title. It was first published in Jean-Baptiste Cartiers 'L'Art du Violon' in 1799. The story behind the piece suggests that Tartini had dreamed the devil performed the piece for him. In his words, the melodies were inspired by the dream and he claimed the piece was much more beautiful than what he had managed to remember and write down on manuscript. It was composed for violin & continuo and arranged for violin and piano by renowned composers and arrangers such as Fritz Kreisler, Joseph Joachim, Jenö Hubay, Tivadar Nachez, Emile Sauret, and Yuly Konyus (Julius Conus)
