Mozart dedicated this beautiful sonata to his friend and student, Josepha Barbara von Auernhammer in 1778, among other sonatas and compositions. She was a respected classical pianist and composer, living from 1758 to 1820. She and Mozart met while he was in Vienna, where he made acquaintance with her musical family. Records suggest he liked to tease her in his letters, but arguably, Mozart thought highly of his student since he performed his music with her multiple times.
