Etude No.24 has a few tempo changes to keep it playable; m.6 and m.40: 1st half is about %15 slower. m. 8, 10, 12, and 42: the big arpeggios and scales are %50 slower. Carl Fischer, in his edition of the Don't studies Op. 35 has the following recommendations for some of the etude s(summarized). 1: Fingers must be placed down at the same time on the strings. The chords should not be arpeggiated, the three strings must be touched at the same time. To produce this, the bow must be firmly lying all all three strings. 3: Unevenness in this etude is often caused by the bow hitting the string slightly before the fingers. To attain an even and smooth sound and string crossing, one should practice placing the fingers slightly too early. 4: The technical suggestions made for the first etude should be used in this one as well. 5: This study is to be practiced at the nut (frog), in the middle, and at the point (tip) with very little bow. Leopold Auer had arranged the 5th and 15th caprices from Dont's opus 35 for violin and piano. He nicknamed them Agite (unrest) and Etincelles (sparks) and dedicated them to his pupil Mishel Piastro.
